Immediately after the ceremony there is often a slightly strange little gap: you are off having photographs taken, everyone has a drink in their hand, and some of your guests are quietly wondering what they are supposed to do next.

That is where I come in.

I move naturally amongst your guests performing close-up magic and mind reading right in their hands — breaking the ice, creating laughter and giving people an instant reason to start talking.

The Drinks Reception Magic Experience — from £550

Turn the gap between your ceremony and wedding breakfast into one of the most talked-about parts of your day.

I normally begin as your guests arrive after the ceremony and perform until everyone takes their seats for the wedding breakfast — usually around 60–90 minutes.

I go wherever your guests naturally gather: around tables, beside the bar, outside on the terrace or amongst groups standing with a drink.

There is nothing for your wedding to stop for. The magic simply becomes part of what is already happening.

While you are enjoying your photographs and those first moments as a married couple, your guests are laughing, talking and sharing something together.

Why it works so well

Weddings bring together people of every age and background, and not everybody knows one another. After 19 years performing professionally, I’m very comfortable walking into almost any group, reading the room and finding the right way in — whether that means storytelling, humour, mind reading, sleight-of-hand or simply knowing when somebody would rather watch than become the centre of attention.

• 40–50 guests: wonderfully relaxed, with time for more magic and longer moments with each group.
• 70–90 guests: a fantastic pace and energy for a drinks reception.
• 150+ guests: get in touch and we can make sure there is enough time for the experience you want.

A little tip for your photographer

Let your photographer know beforehand that I’ll be performing during the drinks reception. The moment something impossible happens and an entire group erupts can make for some brilliant, completely natural photographs.

After Dinner Magic Experience — from £700

Bring the room back to life and carry the energy into the evening.

Once the speeches are finished, there is often another natural pause in the wedding day. Guests have been sitting through dinner, the couple may disappear for more photographs or a quick change, and evening guests begin arriving into a room full of people who have already spent several hours together.

That is when I start.

I’ll usually begin with the top table and the couple, often performing pieces they may not have seen earlier in the day, before moving amongst the day guests and then naturally bringing the arriving evening guests into the atmosphere.

There is no rigid stopwatch on this experience. I perform from the end of the speeches and continue as the evening develops — often right through until the first dance, band or DJ takes over.

From wedding breakfast to wedding party

After a three-course meal and a few glasses of wine, even the liveliest room can lose a little momentum. Close-up magic gives everybody a reason to sit forward again.

A scream comes from one table. Another group wants to know what happened. Someone appears beside me with:

“Our table really wants to see the magician.”

And suddenly the energy starts travelling around the room again. At the same time, evening guests are arriving into a celebration that already feels alive rather than walking into that slightly awkward “So… what happens now?” period.

Magic that works around the wedding

Having worked in hospitality before becoming a full-time magician, I’m very conscious that there is an entire venue team trying to do their job around me. I coordinate with the venue and work around service rather than getting in its way.

If staff are clearing or serving from one end of the room, I’ll begin at the other and naturally work across as they do. The entertainment fits around the wedding — not the other way around.

And weddings do run late. Speeches overrun, photographs take longer than expected and carefully written schedules occasionally disappear out of the nearest window. That does not bother me. I normally perform at only one wedding per day, which gives me far more flexibility to work with what is actually happening rather than constantly looking at my watch.

How many guests?

Weddings of around 150–200 guests can work extremely well for this style of performance because there is plenty of energy and movement in the room. With larger numbers, or where lots of other things are happening at the same time, I may not reach every single guest — and occasionally someone genuinely does not want to see a magician!

The aim is not to tick names off a spreadsheet. It is to create enough strong moments around the room that the entertainment becomes part of the atmosphere.

More Than Just Tricks

The magic matters. But after doing this for nearly two decades, I’ve realised the people matter more.

I love seeing a quiet group suddenly come alive. I love hearing somebody scream because something impossible has just happened six inches from their face. I love seeing one guest drag another across the room because:

“You’ve really got to see this.”

And I particularly love hearing afterwards:

“People are still talking about you.”

“You really made our day.”

For a little while, everyone gets to forget everything else and just enjoy something impossible together. That is the bit I never get tired of.

Wedding Magic FAQs

When is the best time to have a magician at a wedding?

The drinks reception is one of my favourite times. Guests are arriving, people are meeting and you are often away having photographs taken. Magic gives everybody something immediate to share. It can also work brilliantly around the tables during the wedding breakfast or later as the evening begins.

Will the magic interrupt our wedding?

No. The whole idea is that I fit around your wedding rather than your wedding fitting around me. I work naturally amongst the guests and alongside your venue, photographer and wedding team.

What happens if the timings run late?

Welcome to weddings! Things move. I normally only perform at one wedding per day, so I have considerably more flexibility than if I were rushing out of the door to another event immediately afterwards. We will agree the performance arrangements beforehand, but on the day I work with what is actually happening.

How many guests can you entertain?

Around 40–50 guests gives me lots of time with each group. Around 70–90 creates a lively, faster-paced reception. For weddings much above 150 guests, get in touch and I’ll recommend the best approach so expectations are realistic.

Do you travel for weddings?

Absolutely. I’m based in West Wales and perform at weddings throughout Wales and across the UK.
